One
of the largest celebrations of Canada's birthday
west of the nation's capital takes place in Edmonton
every year on July 1. Canada Day begins with
a pancake breakfast, a road race, fun run and a
citizenship court at the Alberta Legislature grounds.
The Silly Summer Parade moves through the Old Strathcona
Historical Area at noon, and there are special afternoon
celebrations at most city attractions. In
the evening, the multicultural extravaganza is followed
by the Great Divide Waterfall (the High Level Bridge
is turned into a living waterfall) and a spectacular
fireworks display over the river valley.
